Health Benefits of Carom Seeds or Ajwain

Carom seeds are very small oval – shaped seeds that are yellowish brown or grayish green in color with a hot – pungent taste and strong odor.

These seeds are commonly used for digestion related problems, flatulence, diarrhea, abdominal pains and bronchial problems. Also, the seeds have several health benefits if used in combination with other spices.

Carom seeds is packed with tahymol. Tahymol chemical is vey effective in helping the stomach release gastric juices that speed up digestion. It is known to help in cases of indigestion, flatulence, nausea and releive colicky pain in babies.

Boil a teaspoon of the seeds (Ajwain) in a cup of water till it is reduced to half, then strain and drink this water for quick relief.

Boil carom seeds and Turmeric (haldi) in a cup of water and have it with honey to treat respiratory infections. Or, carom seeds powder can be added in buttermilk.
